One of the last tasks for the module is cutting out parts of colour photographs who were made at the beginning of the course. Collages can be created in a playful way by placing earlier made papers behind the cut out "windows".
When they are added to a sketchbook, the collages form a reference guide with colour combinations, textures and designs for use in future quilts.
I drawed some wings and other body parts of a real cicada with a black pigma-pen on a watercolour background to add a touch of reality to the collage. My cicada changes of colour like a chameleon on a two page wide presentation:
I enjoyed creating the papers for collage. While writing these last words, my mind is overflowing with ideas to do some mixed media projects with them. But first things first; the last activities of Module 1 must be finished.
In a previous post I showed the results from drawing single objects from black and white photographs. I think it is a great way to become aware of contrast by using a single colour like the gray of a pencil. Translating a composition from colour to grays makes the exercise more difficult, but I'm happy with the result:
